Our Story
About BarrierFree Consulting
We help organizations identify and remove accessibility barriers so more people can fully participate in everyday spaces, services, and communities.
Accessibility Consulting Ontario is the foundation of BarrierFree Consulting’s work. We help organizations understand accessibility challenges, identify barriers, and implement practical solutions that create inclusive environments where everyone can participate fully. Our goal is to make accessibility achievable, practical, and meaningful for every space.

Why BarrierFree Was Created
Accessibility has always mattered to me. For many years, I supported friends and family members who needed accessible spaces. Everyday activities required extra planning, effort, and patience.
When accessibility did not work, it created stress and frustration. Still, I could step away from those moments and return to my life without lasting impact.
That changed in the fall of 2024.
After a serious car accident, I began using a wheelchair. Daily tasks became more difficult. Visiting local businesses, attending appointments, or moving through public spaces required careful planning. Many spaces that claimed to be accessible were not.
Over time, these barriers affected more than mobility. They affected confidence, independence, and participation.
"This experience made one thing clear: accessibility determines who is able
to participate and who is excluded."

Accessibility and Legal Responsibilities in Canada
Accessible Canada Act (Federal)
Canada has committed to becoming a barrier-free country by 2040. Federally regulated organizations must identify, remove, and prevent barriers related to employment, service delivery, communication, and the built environment.
AODA (Ontario Provincial)
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act set a goal of full accessibility by 2025, with standards applying to municipalities, nonprofits, and businesses of different sizes.
Smart move: Understanding these requirements early allows organizations to plan effectively, reduce risk, and demonstrate leadership.
